At the invitation of the Asian Art Museum, the artist Kimsooja, in collaboration with guest curator Keumhwa Kim, has developed a series of collection interventions. The exhibition marks the beginning of a series of new exhibition projects, signifying the Humboldt Forum as a space for contemporary artistic and societal debates. It presents 14 works and groups of works by the internationally exhibited artist originating from Korea, unfolding in a diverse range of media in the exhibitions of the Asian Art Museum and the Ethnological Museum in the Humboldt Forum. Older and newly created works specifically for the exhibition associatively connect with historical objects in the galleries of the museums, stimulating dialogues and contextualizing collections and their themes in relation to the present.

Kimsooja's art transcends boundaries, exploring universal concepts of home, migration, and mobility. Through mediums like installations, performances, sculptures, films, and photographs, she unveils concealed narratives, rendering the intangible tangible. This creative endeavor interweaves spaces, eras, and cultural practices, offering a nuanced exploration of interconnectedness. Ultimately, Kimsooja invites a reevaluation of the conventional separation of Eastern and Western knowledge exchange, reshaping perceptions of art's influence on everyday life.

Accompanying Program

On October 25, 2023, at 5 PM, a conversation between Kimsooja and curator Keumhwa Kim will take place in Room 306 of the Humboldt Forum.
