The Beam @ Top of the Rock

1932년 69층 철근 위 인부들 점심식사 사진 영감

맨해튼 록펠러센터에 그 유명한 1932년 흑백 사진의 빔(beam: 들보, 하중을 치탱하는 구조물)을 재현한 놀이기구 더 빔(The Beam)이 설치됐다. 이 라이드는 30 록펠러 플라자(컴캐스트 빌딩, 전 RCA) 전망대 69층에 12피트 높이로 들어올린 후 180도 회전시켜 센트럴파크와 맨해튼의 360도 전망을 제공한다. 

영감은 1932년 10월 2일 뉴욕 헤럴드트리뷴에 게재된 11명의 철공인이 록펠러 RCA 건물 공사 때 850피트(260미터) 높이 위의 강철 빔 위에 앉아 점심식사하는 모습을 보여주는 사진 "고층건물 꼭대기에서의 점심식사(Lunch Atop a Skyscraper)"이다. 

당시 RCA 건물 공사에는 4만여명이 동원됐으며, 이 사진은 홍보용으로 촬영됐다. 사진작가와 인부들의 신원은 대부분 미스테리로 남아 있다.
