뮤지컬 '사운드 오브 뮤직'의 전설적인 배우 줄리 앤드류스(Julie Andrews)가 딸 엠마 월튼 해밀턴(Emma Walton Hamilton)과 강아지 이야기를 담은 그림 동화책 '샤이(Shy)'를 8워 11일 출간한다. 일러스트레이션은 에바 번(Eva Burne)이 맡았다. 

 

샤이는 셸터에서 구조된 자그마하고, 조용한 강아지다. 그 영혼에게 세상은 시끄럽고, 무섭게 느껴진다. 하지만, 따뜻한 눈빛의 남자가 샤이를 집으로 데려가면서 샤이는 새로운 단짝 친구와 함께 있으면 안전함을 느낀다. 그리고, 남자가 피아노 연습을 하는 동안 그의 곁을 지킨다. 피아노 연주가 시작되자 아름답고 낯선 선율이 공중에 울려 퍼지고, 샤이의 마음속 무언가가 움직이기 시작한다. 중요한 콘서트를 앞둔 피아노 연주자는 자신도 예상치 못한 특별한 공연을 갖게 된다. 

 

줄리 앤드류스는 1970년대 아동소설 '맨디(Mandy)'와 '정말 대단한 왕두들 최후의 한 마리(The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles)'를 집필한 바 있다. 2000년엔 엘리자베스 2세 여왕으로부터 대영제국 훈장(Dame Commander)을 받았다. 영화 '티파니에서 아침을'과 '핑크 팬더'의 감독 블레이크 에드워즈(Blake Edwards)와 41년간 결혼 생활에서 자녀 5명과 손주 10명, 증손주 3명을 두었다. 

 

엠마 월튼 해밀턴은 작가이자 프로듀서, 편집자, 교육자로 줄리 앤드류스와 함께 어린이와 성인을 위한 35권 이상의 책을 집필했으며, 넷플릭스 어린이 TV 시리즈인 '줄리의 그린룸(Julie’s Greenroom)'과 팟캐스트 '줄리의 도서관(Julie’s Library)'을 공동 기획 및 제작했다. 현재 스토니브룩대에서  문예창작을 가르치고 있다.

Julie Andrews’s legendary career encompasses the Broadway and London stages, as well as multiple films, television shows, album releases, concert tours, directing assignments, podcasts, and the world of children’s publishing. Her first two novels for children, Mandy and The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles, were published in the 1970s and remain in print to this day. In 2000, the title of Dame Commander of the British Empire was bestowed upon Andrews by Queen Elizabeth II for lifetime achievements in the arts and humanities. She was married to film director Blake Edwards for 41 years, and the couple have five children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Emma Walton Hamilton is an award-winning writer, producer, editor, and educator. Together with her mother, Julie Andrews, she has written over 35 books for children and adults, and cocreated and coproduced the Netflix children’s television series Julie’s Greenroom, as well as the podcast Julie’s Library.
