Manifesting Marilyn: The Making of an Icon

An immersive exhibition exploring Marilyn Monroe as the architect of her own becoming

 

Timed to her centennial, Manifesting Marilyn: The Making of an Icon reframes one of the world's most recognizable figures through a more complete story: dreamer, reader, performer, and a businesswoman. This is not a traditional retrospective. Through the Genesis House lens, Marilyn is reintroduced as an architect of her own legacy. The experience celebrates the courage to imagine beyond circumstance and invites every guest to consider their own new beginning.

 

On view June 2 through August 2. Tuesday – Sunday, 11AM – 7PM.

 

Her Story Rewritten

The world wrote Marilyn one way. This experience writes the story they missed. Beyond the familiar image is the private world Marilyn built: a reader, a strategist, and a businesswoman who studied her craft, fought for better roles, founded a production company, and shaped the terms of her own future. The story continues upstairs in a curated interpretation of Marilyn's personal library: over four hundred books across literature, poetry, psychology, philosophy, and more and the curious, searching mind behind the icon.

 

Transformation by Design

Marilyn was not simply discovered. She was deliberate. Manifesting Marilyn reveals the mind, method, and vision behind one of the most recognizable figures in modern culture. Glamour was not the whole story; it was one of her tools: voice, wardrobe, timing, color, and presence became part of a deliberate language of becoming. In the Cellar Stage, that transformation turns cinematic: across light, reflection, and archival image, a private vision becomes a public icon. Icons are not simply seen. They are dreamed.
