K-클래식: 카네기홀의 두 피아니스트 

조성진-손열음: 12월 3일 동시 콘서트 무산

12월 3일 카네기홀엔 두 한인 피아니스트의 두 콘서트가 예정되어 있었다. 메인홀인 스턴오디토리움(2,790석)에선 피아니스트 조성진(31)이 피츠버그심포니와 라흐마니노프의 '파가니니 주제에 의한 랩소디'를 현연하고, 와일리사이틀홀(268석)에선 손열음(39)이 폴란드 초대 총리이자 작곡가였던 이그나치 얀 파데레프스키의 곡과 라흐마니노프 작곡 '13개의 전주곡'을 연주할 예정이었다. 손열음의 콘서트는 개인 사정으로 취소됐다. K-클래식 열풍을 반영하는 카네기홀의 조성진, 손열음 한날 콘서트가 무산된 것이 아쉽다. 

 

 

조성진이 난해한 '파가니니 주제에 의한 랩소디' 연주 후 청중의 기립박수를 받고 있다. 이날 앵콜곡으로 쇼팽의 왈츠(Waltz Op.64 No.2)를 선사했다.

조성진이 피츠버그심포니오케스트라와 협연할 '파가니니 주제에 의한 랩소디'는 크리스토퍼 리브와 제인 세이무어 주연 영화 '섬웨어 인 타임(Somewhere in Time, 1980)' 주제가로 널리 알려진 곡이다. 피츠버그심포니는 이날 러시아 출신 현대작곡가 리라 오어바흐(Lera Auerbach)의 'Frozen Dreams'와 쇼스타코비치의 심포니 5번 '혁명'을 연주한다. 1895년 창단된 피츠버그심포니오케스트라의 음악감독 만프레드 호넥이 지휘봉을 잡는다. 

 

서울예고를 거쳐 파리국립고등음악원(Conservatoire de Paris)에서 석사학위를 받은 조성진과 한국예술종합학교를 거쳐 하노버국립음대(Hochschule fuer Musik Theater Hannover)에서 석사학위 받은 손열음은 2011년 차이코프스키 콩쿠르에서 만난 인연이 있다. 이 콩쿠르에서 손열음이 2위, 조성진은 3위였다. 그리고, 조성진은 쇼팽 국제피아노콩쿠르에서 우승했다. 당시 우승은 러시아 출신 다닐 트리포노프가 차지했다.  다닐 트리포노프는 12월 13일 스턴홀에서 리사이틀을 연다. 조성진은 내년 4월 2일 카네기홀에 돌아와 리사이틀을 연다. 프로그램은 바흐의 파르티타, 쇤베르크의 피아노 모음곡, 쇼팽의 왈츠 14곡으로 구성됐다.

When pianist Seong-Jin Cho last performed one of Rachmaninoff’s orchestral works at Carnegie Hall, a modern-day legend was born. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) now invites Cho to perform another of the composer’s pulse-quickening piano-and-orchestra showpieces: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. This exciting program also features Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, for which the PSO earned a Best Orchestral Performance Grammy Award in 2018—the same year that conductor Manfred Honeck was named Artist of the Year by the International Classical Music Awards jury. A New York premiere by internationally renowned composer Lera Auerbach, commissioned by the PSO, rounds out the performance.
