박천휴 작사, 윌 아론슨 작곡 2016년 대학로 초연

'어쩌면 해피 엔딩' 브로드웨이판 비평-흥행 성공

 

 

한국산 뮤지컬 '메이비 해피 엔딩(Maybe Happy Ending, 어쩌면 해피엔딩)'이 4월 22일 브로드웨이 벨라스코 시어터에서 공연 중 응급상황으로 중단됐다가 출연진의 깜짝 콘서트로 화제가 됐다. 

 

브로드웨이 공연 전문 웹진 플레이빌(playbill.com)에 따르면,  다렌 크리스, 헬렌 J. 셴과 데즈 듀론은 응급상황에서 관객을 위해 즉흥 콘서트를 선사했다.

헬렌 J. 셴은 "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"를, 다렌 크리스는 "Teenage Dream"을 기타 반주로 노래했으며, 데즈 듀론은 "Fly Me to the Moon"을 불러 관객들을 열광시켰다고. 이후 제작진은 인스태그램에 즉흥 콘서트를 초래한 응급 상황은 "안전하고, 괜찮았다"고 올렸다.

한국의 헬퍼봇(helperbot) 올리버와 클레어의 로맨틱한 여정을 담은 이 뮤지컬은 지난해 11월 12일 벨라스코 시어터(1016석)에서 개막해 비평과 흥행에서 순항 중이다. 윌 아론슨 작곡, 휴 박(박천휴)이 작사에 이들이 각본을 쓰고, 마이클 아덴이 연출을 맡았다. 올 3월 4일 브로드웨이 캐스트 앨범이 발매됐다. 

 

'메이비 해피 엔딩'은 2025 드라마리그상 뮤지컬 제작상, 연출상(Michael Arden), 연기상(Darren Criss, Helen J. Shen) 등 4개 부문 후보에 올랐다. 시상식은 5월 16일 열린다. 

 

2016년 대학로 예스24 스테이지에서 초연됐으며, 제 2회 한국 뮤지컬상 최우수 작품상, 작사/작곡상, 여우상, 감독상 등을 수상했다. 

2020년엔 아틀란타의 얼라이언스 시어터에서 공연된 후 브로드웨이에 상륙했다. 뉴욕타임스의 추천 뮤지컬로 4월 14일-20일 주간 흥행 수입은 97만 5천달러로 흥행가도를 달리고 있다.

When his fellow HelperBot neighbor Claire asks to borrow his charger, what starts as an awkward encounter leads to a unique friendship, a surprising adventure, and maybe even...love?
