나오면 날개돋힌듯 팔리는 수퍼마켓 트레이더 조(Trader Joe's)의 캔버스 토트백. 2025년 봄 시즌엔 파스텔톤의 미니 백이 열풍을 일으키고 있다.  브루클린 아틀랜틱 애브뉴의 트레이더 조는 1인당 4개로 구매를 제한하고 있다. 종류는 블루, 그린, 핑크, 바이올렛 등 4가지 컬러. 

 

BBC는 미국 쇼핑객들이 이 토트백을 기능성있고, 평범한 쇼핑백으로 여기는 반면, 일본 패셔니스타들은 자신의 지위와 '아메리칸 캐주얼' 스타일을 위해 토트백을 든다고 전했다.

 

트레이더 조는 1977년부터 캔버스 쇼핑백을 판매하기 시작, 지난해 2월엔 미니백을 출시하며 인기를 얻고 있다.

 

2024년 단 2달러 99센트짜리 트레이더 조 토트백은 이베이 등 온라인 리셀러들이 2천999달러 95센트까지 올라왔다. Etsy에선 딸기, 체리, 꽃 벌 등의 수를 놓은 맞춤형 토트백을 약 50-60파운드(65-80 달러)에 올라 있다. 인플루언서들은 물론 유명 인사들이 이 토트백을 들고 있는 모습이 파파라치들에 의해 포착되면서 더 구매욕구를 자극한다는 것.

 

일본인 관광객들은 LA 등 미국 도시를 여행할 때 트레이더 조를 코스로 잡고 있다.

트레이더 조(Trader Joe's)의 로고가 새겨진 한정판 미니 캔버스 토트백($2.99)이 순식간에 동이났다.

 

도시락, 물병, 소지품 정도가 들어가는 한정판 미니 토트백은 2월 27일 세로 11인치, 가로 13인치, 너비 6인치 크기로 청색, 적색, 황색, 녹색의 4종으로 출시된 후 틱톡(TikTok) 등 소셜미디어를 타고 퍼져나가 금새 동이 나버렸다. 

 

뉴욕타임스는 토트백을 색깔별로 구입하려는 쇼핑객, 오전 7시 30분부터 줄 서는 이들, 트레이더 조 7개 매장을 도는 열성팬, 그리고 구입 개수에 제한을 둔 매장을 소개했다. 캘리포니아주 치노힐즈의 한인 대학생 엘리노 김(Elinor Kim, 22)씨는 여동생과 줄서서 트레이더조에 들어가 토트백을 구입하는 군중 장면을 녹화해 틱톡에 올렸다고. 김씨는 7개를 구입했다. 

 

본 아페티(Bon Appetit)는 레딧(Reddit)에 "트레이더 조에 토트백 문의 전화가 쇄도함에 따라 불통이 됐다", 틱톡 사용자들은 쇼핑객들이 사재기하는 장면을 올리고 있다고 전했다.

 

트레이더 조 미니 토트는 eBay, Depop, Mercari 등 사이트에 $16(1개)-$105(4개)에 올라 있다.
