'포에지'(Poésies, 1932)
앙리 마티스는 시를 사랑했다.
마티스는 “시는 당신이 침대에서 튀어나와 신선한 공기로 폐를 채우는 것 같은 산소와도 같다”고 말했다.
마티스는 ‘재즈;’아티스트의 북’ 10여편의 삽화집을 냈다.
뉴욕공립도서관이 소장한 말라르메의 시집 '꽃들'과 마티스의 삽화. 2013년 2월 변경희 교수가 이끄는 알재단 투어에서.

1906년 금융가 J.P. 모건의 자택 옆(36스트릿@매디슨애브뉴)에 건축회사 맥킴, 미드 & 화이트의 찰스 맥킴 설계, 120만 달러의 건축비로 지어진 클래시컬 리바이벌 스타일의 사립 도서관. 1924년 그의 아들 J.P. 모건 주니어가 아버지의 유언에 따라 공립미술관으로 전환했다.
1988년 모건의 브라운스톤 사택인 37스트릿이 별관으로 합병됐다. 1966년 뉴욕시 랜드마크, 미국 역사 랜드마크로 지정됨. 2006년 렌조 피아노(NEW 휘트니)의 설계로 일부가 현대식으로 개조됐다.
