최근 몇주간 친팔레스타인 시위가 이어진 컬럼비아대학은 대규모 졸업식을 취소하고, 19개 단과대학별 졸업식을 연다고 5월 6일 발표했다. 단과대 졸업식은 본교에서 약 100 블럭 떨어진 체육관에서 열릴 예정이다. 메인 캠퍼스는 지난 4월 30일부터 시위가 벌어져 수백명의 경찰이 해밀턴홀에서 시위대 46명을 비롯 100여명 이상을 체포한 후 거의 폐쇄 상태에 이르렀다.

비엔날레가 열리고 있는 휘트니뮤지엄에서는 5월 3일 저녁 8시 45분경부터 9시 20분까지 100여명의 친팔레스타인 미술가 및 사회운동가들이 모여 시위를 벌였다. 하이퍼알러직에 따르면, 이들은 모조 브로셔를 배포해 휘트니 자금 제공자와 후원자, 이스라엘과 관련 회사를 포함하여 이들의 "대량학살 및 강탈"과의 관계에 대한 설명했다. 브로셔는 휘트니의 후원자 현대 자동차와 이사이자 무기 제조업체인 제너럴다이나믹스(General Dynamics)의 10% 지분을 소유한 억만장자 낸시 캐링턴 크라운(Nancy Carrington Crown)을 강조하며 두 회사와 이스라엘 군대의 관계를 강조했다. 시위대는 "휘트니의 대량학살 지금 보기(WHITNEY GENOCIDE NOW ON VIEW)"라는 문구가 적힌 거대한 배너를 6층 테라스에 펼쳤다. 시위는 45분만에 끝났으며 시위대는 평화롭게 뮤지엄을 떠났다. 체포된 사람은 없었다. 

한편, 시카고아트인스티튜트에서도 5월 4일 친팔레스타인 시위가 벌어져 경찰이 68명을 무단침입 혐의로 체포했다. 시위를 주최한 인민미술연구소(People's Art Institute)는 소셜미디어를 통해 이스라엘의 팔레스타인 처우를 공식적으로 규탄하고, '팔레스타인 점령'을 합법화하는 모든 프로그램을 제거하고, 개인이나 단체로부터 자금을 회수하라고 요구했다.
