뉴욕한국문화원이 10월 28일부터 11월 27일까지 '배우 송강호 특별전(Master Series: Actor Song Kang-ho)'을 연다. 'Korean Movie Night at Home' 시리즈의 한 프로그램으로 이 기간 문화원 웹사이트를 통해 송강호 주연작 '공동경비구역 JSA'(2000), '의형제(2010)', '관상(2013)', '변호인(2013)', '택시운전사(2017)' 등 6편을 무료로 상영한다. 영어 자막 제공.

송강호는 1980년대 안성기, 1990년대 한석규, 최민식에 이어 2000년 이후 한국영화계를 이끌어온 간판 배우다. 그는 깡패에서 택시운전사, 변호인, 신부, 왕까지 폭넓은 배역 스펙트럼을 갖춘 연기파 배우일뿐만 아니라 흥행 스타로 군림해왔다.  

 

1967년 경상남도 김해에서 태어난 송강호는 부산 경상대학교 방송연예과 중퇴 후 1991년 극단 연우무대의 '동승'으로 데뷔했다. 이후 '국물 있사옵니다' '심수일과 이순애' 등 무대에서 연기를 닦았다. 영화는 1996년 홍상수감독의 데뷔작 '돼지가 우물에 빠진 날'에서 주인공(김의성)의 동창으로 데뷔했다. 이창동 감독의 데뷔작 '초록 물고기'(1997)에서 깡패 역으로 주목을 받았으며, 장선우 감독의 '나쁜 영화'(1997)에선 엑스트라로 나오기도 했다.  

 

단역과 조연으로 연기력을 인정받아 탄탄하게 경력을 쌓아 올린 송강호는 2000년 김지운 감독의 '반칙왕'으로 첫 주연을 맡았다. 이후 박찬욱 감독의 '공동경비구역 JSA'부터 '복수는 나의 것' '박쥐', 봉준호 감독의 '살인의 추억' '괴물' '설국열차' '기생충' 등 거장들의 영화로 글로벌 스타덤에 올랐다.

 

 

 

2019년 한국의 영화인/전문가 100인의 '한국영화 100년사 최고의 남자 배우'에 송강호가 선정됐으며, 2020년 뉴욕타임스 선정 '21세기 가장 위대한 배우 25인(The 25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century (So Far) by The New York Times)' 6위(김민희 16위)에 올랐다.

 

2006년 '괴물'로 칸영화제를 방문했던 송강호는 '밀양'(2007), '좋은 놈, 나쁜 놈, 이상한 놈'(2008), '박쥐'(2009), '기생충'(2019)에 이어 2021년엔 경쟁부문 심사위원으로 위촉되어 '비상선언'(2021)를 상영했다. 그리고, 올해엔 일본 감독 고레에다 히로가즈 감독의 '브로커(Broker)'로 한국 남자배우 최초로 칸영화제 남우주연상을 거머쥐었다. 

 

송강호는 흥행에서도 독보적인 기록을 갖고 있다. '괴물' '변호인' '택시운전사' '기생충'은 1천만명 이상의 관객동원수를 기록했다. 키 180cm에 몸무게 80kg의 체구인 송강호는 1995년 결혼한 황장숙씨와 사이에 1남1녀를 두었다. 아들 송준평(26)은 축구선수(수원 삼성 블루윙즈)다.

Korean Cultural Center New York presents “Korean Movie Night at Home: Master’s Series -Actor Song Kang-ho” with a new lineup of 6 films in October.

The Korean Cultural Center in New York is proud to announce a new actor series as a part of its online Korean film screening program for 2022, featuring one of Korea’s most well-known and revered actors, Song Kang-ho. A free screening of <Korean Movie Night at Home: Master’s Series - Actor Song Kang-ho> will be held for one month from October 28th to November 27th, presenting a collection of films that showcases his diverse and wide range as an actor, from historical dramas to action hits: Joint Security Area(공동경비구역-JSA, 2000), Secret Reunion(의형제, 2010), The Face Reader(관상, 2013), The Attorney(변호인, 2013), A Taxi Driver(택시운전사, 2017), and The King’s Letters(나랏말싸미, 2019).

 

Actor Song Kang-ho, who was the first Korean male actor to win the “Best Actor Award” for his latest film “The Broker(브로커)” at the 75th Cannes Film Festival this year, may be most internationally recognized for his role in the Oscar and Cannes-winning Parasite, but  having starred in many of Korea’s most acclaimed films, he has already garnered a reputation as a “national treasure” of the Korean film industry.

 

Song Kang-ho is often praised for his ability to capture incredible depth for his wide range of characters with the smallest of details: he is an actor with a wide spectrum of characters who can perform serious and heavy roles to comic, lighthearted ones with the same level of meticulousness and fluidity. His expressiveness is further heightened by his ability to ad-lib and to quickly move between different colors and tones for the character he plays.

 

All his further emphasizes his talent for making even seemingly insignificant lines into the most famous ones, as he’s created several beloved hit one-liners. 

 

Korean Movie Night at Home: Actor Song Kang-ho presents a collection of films for all movie lovers, providing a glimpse into the immense range of skill of Song as one of the most revered actors of today.  

 

This online film screening is presented as a part of the Korean Movie Night at Home’s Master’s Series of 2022, featuring Korean actors who have distinguished themselves as masters of their craft. Following the success of Korean Movie Night New York’s Master’s Series featuring directors Park Chan-wook and Lee Joon-ik, this year highlights the Korean actors who have captured the hearts of audiences around the world.

#Joint Security Area (공동경비구역 JSA)

After a shooting incident at the North and South Korean border (DMZ) leaves 2 North Korean soldiers dead, a neutral Swiss/Swedish team investigates what actually happened.

 

Synopsis

Set along the ‘Bridge of No Return’ in Panmunjom, the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. One day, a border guard is killed by a rifle bullet; the suspected marksman is a South Korean soldier (Lee Byung-Hun), who is found wounded in the middle of no-man’s-land. This incident will have grave repercussions. Both North and South Korea regard the incident as an act of deliberate provocation. Synopsis

A shoot out in the middle of the city brings together North Korean spy Ji-won and National Intelligence Service agent Lee. The operation to capture an assassin spy known as ’Shadow’ ends in disaster and the agent Lee is dismissed from his post. Ji-won is also abandoned by his organization after being framed as a traitor. 6 years later, the two men run into each other but they hide their identities and decide to work together. As they live under one roof, they maintain a tight-rope tension and gradually develop an unusual friendship all the while trying to uncover each other’s true motives. However, Ji-won receives an order from the organization that brings out Shadow for another mission. In Joseon Dynasty, despite so many accomplishments he has made for the people, King Sejong’s biggest goal is still remaining: the invention of original letters that can be read and written by all the people. But courtiers, who want to dominate knowledge and power, are against his will and discourage his belief.
