식기 세척기(dishwasher)가 편리하지만, 늘 손설거지를 하게 된다. 세탁기를 두고 손빨래를 하는 셈이다. 왜 굳이 손설거지를 하는지 자문한다면, 애벌 세척을 하느니 아예 설거지로 후딱 끝내버리는 것이 속시원하며, 식사 후 약간의 운동도 되기 때문이 아닐까. 그러다 보니 식기 세척기가 식기 보관함이 되었다.

100% 순 양모로 제작된 매트(16" x 20" x 3/8”)와 린넨 커버/슬리브가 한 세트. 설마했는데 사용해보니 양모의 흡수성이 마술같다. 설거지 후 1시간 내에 흡수된 물기가 완전히 사라져버렸다. 신기하게도 슬리브 안의 울 매트는 눅눅하지도 않고, 냄새가 나지도 않는다. 어디로 갔을까?

*코로나 팬데믹으로 바꾼 것중 하나가 타월이었다. 보통 타월(테리 클로스, Terry cloth)은 젖은 상태에서 세균이 번식되기 쉽다고 해서 린넨으로 교체하니 가볍고, 금방 말라서 기분도 상쾌하다. 린넨 덕으로 욕실도 업그레이드된 느낌이다.
