뉴욕타임스의 비평가 마놀라 다지스(Manohla Dargis)와 알리싸 윌킨슨(Alissa Wilkinson)이 2023년 최고의 영화 10을 선정했다.

 

NYT는 올 대부분의 영화들이 상당히 염세적인 주제를 다루었지만, 아트하우스(독립 예술영화)나 주류(할리우드) 모두 훌륭한 영화들이 많이 나왔다고 평했다. 두 비평가가 1위에 마틴 스콜세지 감독, 레오나르도 디 카프리오 주연의 '플라워킬링 문(Killers of the Flower Moon)'을 선정했다.

 

데이비드 그랜(David Grann)의 동명 논픽션을 원작으로 한 '플라워 킬링 문'은 1920년대 오클라호마주에서 석유 시추를 둘러싸고 인디언 원주민 부족 오세이지족 연쇄살인 사건과 이를 수사하는 BOI(FBI 전신)의 이야기를 담았다. 제목  ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’은 꽃을 죽이는 달(5월)의 시간이라는 의미로 오세이지 문화를 파괴하고, 자원을 빼앗으려는 백인 식민지 개척자들을 상징한다. 

 

알리싸 윌킨슨은 한인 셀린 송 감독의 '전생(Past Lives)'을 2위에 올렸다. '전생'은 2023 고담 독립영화상 최우수 작품상을 수상했다. 다음은 두 비평가들의 톱 10 리스트.
