BAMBOO FOREST II comes to the newly opened raw barn space at Gallery 90 in Center Moriches, NY. The original installment of BAMBOO FOREST first appeared at the Garage Art Center in Queens NY in 2022. In BAMBOO FOREST II, artist Seung Lee will create both a dynamic workspace and exhibition space, offering the observer the visual change and growth inherent in bamboo. Visitors are encouraged to return to the space during the month to experience the change.
The observer will be transported to a bamboo forest via large drawings and paintings displayed at Gallery 90 in Center Moriches, Long Island NY. Artist Seung Lee’s workspace on the North Fork of Eastern Long Island is shrouded with bamboo. While struggling to make art during the pandemic times, Seung spent many days exercising “bamboo management”. Consequently, an area for meditation and drawing was created.
Consequently, bamboo has emerged as a main theme in Seung’s art since the pandemic. Bamboo reflects strength, flexibility, and health. Its strength teaches us to stand upright. Its flexibility teaches us to adapt to hard circumstances and spring back after experiencing adversity. The combination of these virtues teaches us how to find balance and peace in our lives, thereby improving our health.
Bamboo enjoys other accolades as well. Bamboo forests can offer solutions to environmental problems. The bamboo forests can reduce pollution by producing oxygen, more than 35% more than trees. Bamboo roots create a water barrier that helps control soil erosion. Bamboo also consumes high qualities of nitrogen, which helps reduce water pollution.
