주간 타임(TIME)이 선정한 2018 올해의 인물(Person of the Year)은 기자들이다. 한국에서 기레기(기자+쓰레기)로 추락한 저널리스트들과는 대조적인 양상이다.
세계의 부정부패, 부조리와 싸워 정의와 진실을 알리려다 목숨까지 걸었던 인물들이다. '수호자들과 진실과의 전쟁' 커버 스토리엔 4가지로 사우디 아라비아에서 사망한 워싱턴포스트 기자 자말 카쇼기, 필리핀 뉴스 웹사이트 Rappler의 마리아 레싸, 미얀마 감옥에 투옥된 로이터 기자들 와 로네와 카이오 소에 우, 그리고 메릴랜드 대량학살의 타겟이 됐던 캐피털 가젯 신문 기자들을 표지로 4가지 버전을 발행했다.
