제 78회 토니상 최우수 뮤지컬, 극본, 오리지널 작곡상 등 10개 부문 후보에 오른 한국산 뮤지컬 '메이비 해피엔딩(어쩌면 해피엔딩, Maybe Happy Ending)'이 오는 6월 8일 토니상 시상식 무대에서 공연된다.

 

윌 아론슨/박천휴 공동 대본, 공동 작사, 윌 아론슨 작곡의 '메이비 해피엔딩'은 2016년 서울에서 '어쩌면 해피엔딩'으로 초연된 후 지난해 11월 브로드웨이 벨라스코 시어터에 상륙했다. 헬퍼봇 올리버와 클레어가 우연히 만나 사랑을 느끼게된다는 이야기다. 

 

'메이비 해피엔딩'은 올 토니상 최우수 뮤지컬, 극본, 오리지널 작곡, 연출, 남우주연(다렌 크리스), 무대디자인, 의상디자인, 조명, 사운드디자인, 오케스트레이션상 등 10개 부문에 노미네이트되어 있다. 이미 2025 드라마데스크상 최우수 뮤지컬, 연출, 음악, 가사, 대본, 무대디자인상, 드라마리그상 최우수 뮤지컬, 연출, 아우터비평거협회상 신작뮤지컬, 작곡, 연출상 등을 석권했다. 

 

올 시상식에선 토니상 최우수 뮤지컬상 후보에 오른 '부에나 비스타 소셜클럽(Buena Vista Social Club), '데드 아웃로(Dead Outlaw)', '죽어야 사는 여자(Death Becomes Her)', '오퍼레이션 민스미트(Operation Mincemeat)'와 최우수 리바이벌뮤지컬상 후보작인 '플로이드 콜린스(Floyd Collins), '집시(Gypsy), '파이러츠!(Pirates!)' '펜잔스 뮤지컬( The Penzance Musical)' 그리고 '선셋 불레바드(Sunset Boulevard)'도 샘플로 공연죌 예정이다. 

 

이와 함께 뮤지컬 '해밀턴(Hamilton)' 수상 10주년을 기념, 린-마누엘 미란다, 레슬리 오덤 주니어 등 오리지널 캐스트가 특별 공연을 펼친다. 제 78회 토니상 시상식은 6월 8일 오후 8시 맨해튼 라디오시티뮤직홀에서 뮤지컬 영화 '위키드'의 배우 신시아 에리보의 사회로 열리며, CBS-TV로 생중계된다.
