근래 미국에선 빈부의 차이가 극심해졌지만, 그래도 약자에게 친절한 나라인 편이다.
어린이, 노인, 학생, 그리고 장애자들을 배려할 줄 아는 시스템이 있다.
야닉 벤자민(Yannick Benjamin)과 알렉스 엘리구딘(Alex Elegudin)은 교통사고로 척추 손상을 입고 만났다. 야닉은 25세, 알렉스는 19세. 치료를 받으면서 야닉은 소믈리에(sommelier)가 되기위해 대학에 갔고, 알렉스는 법대로 복학했다. 한동안 장애자 단체에서 자원봉사를 하던 이들은 의기투합 2011년 장애자지원기구 Wheeling Forward를 창립하고, Wine on Wheels를 열면서 뉴욕의 소믈리에들을 초청한 와인 시음회와 특강, 경매로 기금을 조성해오고 있다.
제 5회 Wine on Wheels 2016에는 장 조지, 르 버나단, 다니엘, 모모푸쿠 코, 노매드 레스토랑 등의 스믈리에를 포함 특히 여성 소믈리에들이 대거 참가했다.
