A Life of Luxury Exhibitions Open 30 November

NEW YORK, 21 November 2017 – Kicking off Sotheby’s inaugural A Life of Luxury* series of auctions and events this winter, Sotheby’s Wine is delighted to host Finest & Rarest Wines on Saturday, 2 December— our final New York wine auction of 2017. A wonderful range of wines is on offer, noteworthy for the breadth of regions spanning the globe and the depth of formats, from half bottle to Nebuchadnezzar. The pre-sale estimate for the 1,036 lots available is $1.9/2.7 million.

Two impeccable collections replete with Burgundy and Champagne will open the auction, beginning with “DRC Spanning Four Decades, Rousseau in Historic Vintages, and Top-Flight Bordeaux” (lots 1000-1077), which comprises over 180 bottles of DRC and includes both 1990 and 2005 Chambertin Domaine Armand Rousseau. “A Dazzling Cache of Pristine Old and New World Wines” follows (lots 1078-1176), offering collectors the chance to obtain mini-verticals of Haut Brion Blanc, Coche-Dury, Krug Clos du Mesnil and Masseto, as well as larger than life imperials of Cheval Blanc 2005 and Petrus 2011, and a Nebuchadnezzar of the luxuriant Yquem 2013.

The December sale will also feature wines from the extraordinary collection of acclaimed photographer Fredric Roberts. A compelling selection from the former investment banker and Chairman of the National Association of Securities Dealers’ collection is on offer to benefit the Fredric Roberts Foundation – an organization that gives students a voice through photography: lots of 2000 Bordeaux in original wood case, such as 12 bottles of Haut Brion (lot 1179, estimate $6,000-9,000), 12 bottles of Lafite (lot 1190, estimate $14,000-18,000), and 12 bottles of Mouton Rothschild (lot 1222, estimate $16,000-22,000), as well as a mini vertical of Palmer including vintages 2002, 2000, 1999, 1996, 1995, 1990, 1983 and 1982 (lots 1262-1269).

Spanning several collections, the auction will also feature the largest selection of Sine Qua Non wines ever offered at Sotheby’s. Featured lots include Sine Qua Non The Duel Eleven Confessions Vineyard Syrah & Grenache 2008 in double magnums (lot 1404), 9 bottles each of Sine Qua Non Piranha Waterdance Syrah & Shakti Grenache 2014 (lots 1156 & 1157), rare bottles of Sine Qua Non Red Handed and The Other Hand from the early vintage of 1995 (lot 1819), and a magnum of Sine Qua Non The Hussy 2000 (lot 1168).
