WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15 - FRANCE/ITALY
This film will be featured on the larger 40' screen, supported by NYC & Company
2010, 106 mins. Directed by Abbas Kiarostami.
In this playful and provocative romantic drama from the legendary Abbas Kiarostami- his first film made outside of Iran - Juliet Binoche plays a gallery owner living in a Tuscan village. Her encounter with a British author over the course of a day takes increasingly perplexing turns, as Kiarostami slyly plays with the rules of narrative. Binoche won the Best Actress award at Cannes. (Not Rated)
Le Nozze di Carlo
Le Nozze di Carlo was put together to play at an Italian friend's wedding. The band lasted longer than the marriage. Le (The) Nozze (Wedding) di (of) Carlo (Charles) is the translation. They can be found in restaurants, bars, lounges, cafes, museums, art galleries and the occasional shopping center throughout the metropolitan area. Their repertoire consists of Italian, French and Spanish traditional, pop and film music mixed in with their own original takes on music from the Atlantic Rim. The personnel for this performance will consist of Gene Caprioglio - guitar, Joel Darelius - acoustic bass, Paule Diamond - soprano saxophone, Emily Fellner Zeig - accordion and trumpet and Bob Goldberg - accordion. Everybody in the band sings.
Italian food will be provided by LIC's Vesta Trattoria.
