Celebrate Women's History Month at Brooklyn Museum's 

Target First Saturday on March 3

On March 3, Target First Saturday celebrates Women's History Month with a dynamic lineup of women and female-identified individuals in an evening of performance, film, talks, and performance. Highlights include musical performances by Sabine Blaizin (Oyasound) and Leikeli47; performances by Brown Girls Burlesque and MICHIYAYA Dance; and a community talk with THINK!Chinatown.

Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturday events attract thousands of visitors to free art and entertainment programs each month. Some Target First Saturday programs have limited space and are ticketed on a first-come, first-served basis. *Denotes a ticketed event.

NOTE: To accommodate crowds, starting at 5 pm we ask that everyone enter through the front of the Museum. Look for the various lines for entry, including special check-in for Brooklyn Museum Members and for David Bowie is e-ticket holders.
 
Programs do not include admission to the ticketed exhibition David Bowie is(visit brooklynmuseum.org to purchase tickets).

5-6:30 pm Dance: All-women company MICHIYAYA Dance present their collaborative choreography. Artistic directors Anya Clarke and Mitsuko Verdery lead Jam Session, an hour-long guided improvisational movement workshop, followed by performances by the full company. All are welcome, no experience necessary.

5:30-6:30 pm Curator Tour:Carmen Hermo, Assistant Curator, Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, leads a tour of the special exhibition Roots of "The Dinner Party": History in the Making. The exhibition closes the following day, on Sunday, March 4.

*6-7 pm Community Talk: Community organization THINK!Chinatown discusses their recent artistic and architectural projects and shares how we can strengthen Chinatown's economic and cultural resilience.

*6-7:30 pm Black Girls Rock!: Beverly Bond launches her new book Black Girls Rock! Owning Our Magic, Rocking Our Truth, which celebrates the achievements and contributions of black women.

*6-8 pm Hands-On Art: Join a collaborative banner-making project inspired by Judy Chicago's installation The Dinner Party.

6:30-7:30 pm Feminist Book Club with Well-Read Black Girl: Glory Edim of Well-Read Black Girl closes out her monthly series focusing on Judy Chicago's favorite feminist reads. This month, join a discussion of Surpassing Certainty: What My Twenties Taught Me (2017), by Janet Mock.

7-8 pm Music: Rapper Leikeli47 presents her unique brand of high-energy hip-hop.

7-8 pm Pop-Up Gallery Talks: Teen Apprentices host ten-minute talks about works of art in our American Art galleries.

8:30-10 pm Pop-Up Poetry: Hear poetry from zakia henderson-brown, Marwa Helal, and Aracelis Girmay. Presented in partnership with Cave Canem Foundation, an organization committed to cultivating the artistic and professional growth of black poets.

*8:30-10 pm Brown Girls Burlesque: Brown Girls Burlesque presents Act Like a Lady! Strippin' Fo' the Culture, an evening of theatrical burlesque hosted by Ravenessa and featuring Hoodoo Hussy, Elektra Taste, Dakota Mayhem, Skye Siren and Dirty Honey Shake dancers. The program contains adult content.

9-10 pm Music:
 Sabine Blaizin (Oyasound), with Courtnee Roze on percussion, showcases music of the African diaspora, including soul, house, Afrotech, Afrobeat, and Haitian sounds.
