On Wednesday, May 3, the Alexander String Quartet performs Mozart's 'Hoffmeister' Quartet' (K.499) along with the second 'Prussian Quartet' (K.589). Rounding-out the program, ASQ tags in all-star pianist Joyce Yang for the genre-defining Quartet for Piano & Strings No. 1 in G minor (K.478). Two days later, on Friday, May 5, the Alexanders complete the 'Prussian' cycle with performances of Mozart's String Quartets Nos. 21 (K.575) and 23 (K.590). Mozart's quartets Nos. 21-23, nicknamed the "Prussian Quartets", were written between 1789-90 and dedicated to the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm II, who himself was an amateur cellist. Joyce Yang once again joins the group for the Quartet for Piano & Strings No. 2 in E-flat major (K.493).

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Alexander String Quartet has performed in the major music capitals of five continents, securing their standing among the world's premier ensembles. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, Shostakovich, and Brahms, the quartet's recordings of the Beethoven cycle, Bartók, and Shostakovich cycles have won international critical acclaim. The quartet has also established itself as an important advocate of new music through over 30 commissions from such composers as Augusta Read Thomas, Martin Bresnick, and Pulitzer prize-winner, Wayne Peterson.

Blessed with "poetic and sensitive pianism" (Washington Post) and a "wondrous sense of color" (San Francisco Classical Voice), pianist Joyce Yang captivates audiences with her virtuosity, lyricism, and interpretive sensitivity. As a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition silver medalist and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, Yang showcases her colorful musical personality in solo recitals and collaborations with the world's top orchestras and chamber musicians.
